Henry Choy Joins ActiveVideo Networks to Drive Web-Connected TV Initiative; Will Move OEMs to the ActiveVideo CloudTV Platform

SAN JOSE, CA – Henry Choy, highly regarded as a thought leader in the consumer electronics industry for more than 20 years, has joined ActiveVideo Networks™ as Vice President, Business Development, the company announced today.

Choy, who will be responsible for driving ActiveVideo’s Web-Connected TV initiative, most recently had served as vice president, consumer electronics business development for AnySource Media, an enabler of next-generation content on traditional CE devices. AnySource Media was acquired by DivX, Inc. earlier this year.

With ActiveVideo Networks, Choy will be responsible for driving partnerships between original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and ActiveVideo’s CloudTV platform that will significantly expand the reach and availability of rich, Web-based user experiences that are redefining connected TV and Blu-ray players (see separate release). Currently in 5 million homes, ActiveVideo® anticipates growth to more than 20 million cable, IPTV and Web-connected homes by year end, 2010.

“As we gain more traction in the consumer electronics industry, it’s become important that we add the deeper levels of expertise necessary to build stronger partnerships and anticipate the industry’s needs,” said Jeff Miller, president and CEO of ActiveVideo Networks. “Henry Choy possesses all of the qualities we sought: an extensive background in CE, longstanding relationships, and a track record of success.”

“ActiveVideo Networks’ proven success in helping cable operators to engage subscribers and generate revenue has attracted the interest of the CE industry,” said Choy. “By accelerating the availability of the ActiveVideo platform across a wide variety of devices, we will build a solid viewer foundation that will help to support the creation of the next generation of television content.”

A well-respected CE industry consultant, Choy has worked directly with start-up and emerging companies to help them develop new businesses and markets. With AnySource Media, he was instrumental in securing integration agreements for the company’s software in connected TVs, set-top boxes and Blu-ray players. Prior to his time with AnySource, Choy served as vice president of DisplaySearch, for which he developed the company’s TV electronics research business and an associated conference.

Choy began his career in 1985 with AMD, where he served seven years as senior product engineer and senior product marketing engineer. Since leaving AMD in 1992, he has led business development, marketing and sales initiatives for a wide variety of Silicon Valley firms, including Oak Technology, Yamaha, 3Dlabs, Rendition, 3Dfx, Silicon Motion and Rambus Inc. He also has served as an analyst for Jon Peddie Associates.
